The GP340 is a UHF/VHF analogue two-way radio from Motorola. The most popular two-way radio ever produced, the GP340 was a mainstay in a variety of industries for many decades.
Standing at 137mm in height, 57.5mm in width and 37.5mm in depth whilst also weighing in at 420g (with battery attached) means that the GP340 is both lightweight and compact. A simple black box design on top of the radio next to the antenna is both a channel selector knob and volume/power knob. The right hand side of the radio is home to a textured push to talk button alongside multiple programmable buttons, one of these buttons can be programmed as an emergency button allowing the user to send out a distress call should they have a compromise of both safety or security.
There are 16 channels that are available to program on the Motorola GP340, this being sufficient for the majority of small to medium sized businesses. Should you wish to be able to scan through channels to check for any ongoing transmissions then channel scanning is a possibility with this radio, the 16th channel will be programmed to quickly cycle through programmed channels stopping whenever it acknowledges a transmission being made. Another aspect that makes the GP340 a great radio for larger premises’ is its ability to perform repeater talkaround, should you have a repeater and it stops working for whatever reason then the GP340 can continue to operate within the network by bypassing it to continue communications.
The GP340 is built to IP54 protection standards, this meaning that it not only has a limited Ingres protection against dust intrusion but also safeguarded against splashes of water from all angles. Although not the level of protection rating that is seen on modern day radios, this IP rating is more than sufficient for everyday use in even the toughest of working environments.
